About EarnIt

What is EarnIt, in one sentence?

An iPhone and iPad app that turns jobs around the house into a real weekly wage, so children learn where money comes from, what effort it takes, and that not all work is worth the same.

Isn’t this just a chore chart?

A chore chart records whether things got done. EarnIt connects that effort to money a child can watch build up, save and spend, and it prices everything they want in effort as well as pounds. The jobs are how the money gets earned; the point is what the money teaches.

What age is it for?

Roughly five to sixteen. There are four levels (Younger, Standard, Older and Teen), each a genuinely different experience. You pick the level. The app never asks anyone’s age.

Does it work on Android?

Not at the moment. EarnIt is iPhone and iPad only, on iOS 26 or later.

Money

Does EarnIt move real money?

No. EarnIt is a ledger: it keeps an exact record of what each child has earned, saved, spent and given, and you hand the money over in whatever way suits you. There’s no bank, no card and no fees.

How is the weekly amount worked out?

By default, you set what a week is worth and give each job a weight. On payday the pot is shared out by how much of the week’s weight was done. You can switch to paying per job, or a hybrid of the two.

What if a job simply didn’t come up?

It doesn’t count against them. EarnIt tells apart five reasons a job wasn’t done (missed, let off, never came up, away, or at their other home), and only “missed” costs anything.

What’s the “effort price”?

Anywhere an amount appears, EarnIt can also show it in your child’s own work, for example “about nine weeks’ pocket money, or 43 × emptying the dishwasher”. It’s worked out from their actual pot and jobs.

Can children earn extra?

Yes. Bonus jobs, extras on anytime jobs, and from the older levels, offering to do a job at a price they name, which you can accept or counter.

Kids & safety

Can my child pay themselves?

No. A tick is only a claim. Only a grown-up’s approval turns work into money, and the grown-up side needs the household PIN.

Does my child need an Apple Account, email or login?

Not for EarnIt. There are no EarnIt accounts. A child joins your family with a one-time code or QR scan from your phone.

Can anyone outside our family contact my child?

No. There’s no chat, no social features, no ads and no external links on the child’s side.

Why are kindness and honesty never paid?

Research on motivation consistently finds that paying children for things they’d do anyway, like helping, tends to make them do it less. So values in EarnIt are noticed and celebrated, unlock themes and growth, and never turn into money.

Devices

Do my children need their own phones?

No. EarnIt works on a single parent phone, a shared family iPad, or each child’s own device, or any mix.

Can two parents in the same house both use it?

Yes. Another grown-up joins your household and you both see and approve the same things. Approving the same job on two phones at once still only pays once.

What happens if we get a new phone?

Your household is in your iCloud, so it comes with you. You can also export a backup file at any time.

Two homes

We’re separated. Can we both use EarnIt?

Yes. That’s what it was built for. Each home runs its own EarnIt, with its own jobs, money and rules, and your child’s side joins both. How it works →

Can my ex see my household?

No. The two households are separate files in separate iCloud accounts, and nothing links them. Only your child’s device holds both.

Will my child be marked down for days at the other house?

No. Set a care schedule and jobs are only expected on the days they’re with you.

Privacy

What data do you collect?

None. There’s no EarnIt server and no analytics. Your household lives on your devices and in your own iCloud. Read the privacy policy →

Where are proof photos stored?

On the device only. They’re never uploaded, and they’re deleted automatically a few weeks after approval.
